Cardboard classes & their meaning
The abbreviations are composed as follows:
First letter = surface treatment:
G = coated (The surface is coated with a fine layer - for better printability and a smoother feel)
U = uncoated (The surface is natural, has a matt and authentic appearance - but is still easy to print on)
A = cast-coated (Particularly smooth, glossy surface - ideal for high-quality, visually strong print images)
Second letter = fiber type:
Z = bleached primary fibers (pulp) (Bright, high-quality virgin fibers - very uniform and easy to print)
N = unbleached primary fibers (Natural virgin fibers - often with brown or grey coloring)
C = Primary fibers (mechanical pulp) (blend of virgin fibers - high degree of whiteness, good stability)
T = secondary fibers, reverse side white, yellow or brown (Recycled fibers - environmentally friendly, versatile and cost-effective)
D = secondary fibers, reverse side grey (Typical for recycled cardboard - particularly resource-saving)
Digit = additional technical information
(specific volume, color, grammage classes or printability / degree of smoothness)
1 = High quality, high smoothness (premium applications with excellent printability)
2 = Standard quality (Balanced price-performance ratio, common varieties)
3-4 = Variants with slightly different properties (e.g. lower weight, different stiffness)
7-8 = Internal type differentiation / specialty papers (For new grades, special applications or differentiated products)
